Avoid These 5 Common Printing Mistakes

When you become a client of Jeni Jo Photography, I give you free rein on how to use, showcase, and share your photos. You can print them through your easy-to-use online gallery and receive the highest quality prints, every time. Or you can print them on your own! If you choose the ladder, I recommend looking over these 5 common printing mistakes to be sure you don't make one!

1. Ignoring The Crop

If you're not aware of how the image is going to be cropped when printing, you could risk cutting off an important part of the photo! Always be sure to double check your cropping before adding the print to your cart. Keep essential parts of the image further away from the edge than you think, especially if you plan to frame the print.

2. Right Wall, Wrong Size (or vise versa?)

Don't forget to measure the space on your wall to be sure the print will fit proportionally when it's hung up! If you choose to eyeball it or guess the right size, you may end up needing to find a new wall once it's time to hang up the print. If you print too small, you can always create a wall gallery, like this!

3. Color Calibration Catastrophe

If you choose to print at a cheap consumer printer like Walgreens, Walmart, or Vista Print, be prepared to have the colors turn out really wonky! Save your iPhone images for these printing places and instead invest in higher quality printing labs for your professional portraits. Outside of my professional printing lab that you have access to through your online gallery (as a JJP client), I actually really like Small Woods (they're also very low cost) or Mpix. But nothing beats the professional quality!

4. Using an Incorrect File Resolution

Be sure to only print photos that you've downloaded directly from your online gallery as a high resolution file. If the file is too small or set for web use only, it will result in blurry and pixelated.

5. Not Filling Your Walls Sooner

As soon as you receive your images, you should choose your favorites that you want to print that day! And then actually print them! The more time that goes by without making a conscious decision on which photos are your favorites for your wall, the longer your walls will remain bare. Before you know it, 3 years will have gone by and you still don't have any photos printed (this is also me speaking to myself).
